Yes, it's possible - the Bolt Driver app is fully available in English. But a basic set of Polish phrases significantly improves your work and boosts your earnings. Documents and paperwork go through the partner.
What Polish you actually need
What you DON'T need
- Fluent Polish, grammar, literary language
- Reading legal documents (the partner handles this)
- Philosophical or political conversations with passengers
What you DO need
- Basic greetings: "dzień dobry", "dobry wieczór", "do widzenia"
- Simple addresses - knowing how to ask "gdzie mam jechać?"
- Numbers - entrance number, floor
- "Tak / nie / nie rozumiem / przepraszam"
That covers 90% of rides. The other 10% - handled through situation interpretation and gestures.
How the Bolt Driver app works
The entire app interface is available in English. Set it up in your profile in 30 seconds. Addresses display in Polish (because they are Polish), but navigation is automatic (Google Maps or Waze in your language).
Passengers enter the address in their app, you just follow GPS. No need to memorize streets.
Communicating with passengers
Minimal phrase set
For most rides, this is enough:
- Pickup: "Dzień dobry, proszę wsiadać." (Hello, please come in.)
- Address confirmation: "Jedziemy na [address], tak?" (We're going to [address], right?)
- Drop-off: "Dojechaliśmy. Do widzenia!" (We've arrived. Goodbye!)
That's it. 95% of rides are silent 15-25 minutes with passengers on their phones.
When you don't understand
Honest phrase: "Przepraszam, nie mówię dobrze po polsku. Can we use English?" (Sorry, I don't speak Polish well. Can we use English?) - then use a translator on your phone. Polish passengers are usually understanding, especially in Warsaw, Kraków, and Wrocław.
How language affects ratings and earnings
Important point. Bolt gives more rides to higher-rated drivers (4.8+). Rating depends on passenger impression.
Our analysis of 500+ foreign drivers in Kraków and Warsaw:
| Polish level | Average rating |
|---|---|
| Zero (only "dzień dobry") | 4.65 |
| Basic (greetings + simple phrases) | 4.78 |
| Conversational | 4.85 |
The rating difference of 4.65 vs 4.78 means +15-20% more rides. In other words - 15 minutes of Polish per day gives you +800-1,200 PLN per month.

Cities where English is most useful
Warsaw
Very international city. 40%+ of evening/night rides include English-speaking passengers (expats, tourists, business travelers). Driving here in English is almost a feature, not a bug.
Kraków
Heavy tourist traffic. In summer, 30%+ of rides have English-speaking passengers. Good English is actively rewarded with tips and higher ratings.
Wrocław
Large IT community, many internationals. English works well, especially for rides to/from offices and tech hubs.
Lublin, Rzeszów, Tarnów
Less international. Here basic Polish is more important - 90%+ of passengers are locals. But still very doable with the phrase set above.
What our foreign drivers say
Ahmed, driver in Warsaw since 2023: "I started with zero Polish. After three months, I understood 60% of passenger conversations. Polish is easier than it looks if you practice daily."
Priya, driver in Kraków since 2024: "Kraków passengers are very friendly. If I don't understand, they often switch to English. The Bolt app in English works perfectly."
